Midnight

By

I lie awake in the still darkness

Alone with my thoughts.

Listening to the sounds off in the distance

3 miles away.

I hear the midnight train. Steel on Steel chugging along

A Warning Whistle long and loud.

In my mind I see crossing guards lowed and red lights flashing

I feel the chilly night air in my lungs

The pureness of a winter midnight

Safe & warm, yet my senses are in tune with the life that chugs along

the train tracks. Moving with rapid speed & warning sound from town to town.

The midnight train is 3 miles away. I hear it best in the midnight of winter

When the earth sleeps.

It is the only sound.
